Cooking classes at the Copper Kettle!!!

    Artisan Breads Made Easy

    Loaves Every Day

Beautiful loaves have been appearing here at The Copper Kettle as Cathy Harokopis has been perfecting her breads.  She has found ways to have a fresh loaf of bread every day.  Bread making can be difficult here in Laramie with the hurdles of cold, dryness and elevation to contend with.  Cathy has figured out what works well here and what doesn’t.  We will have a very informative class on Saturday, Jan. 30th from 10am to noon.  $30.00

    Kids in the Kitchen

    Fun with Breads

Flour, flour, everywhere.  This class is always a blast!  We will talk about the chemistry of bread; learn kneading techniques, what scoring the tops of breads does to the shape of the bread and more.  We will get pretty darn dusty with flour so dress accordingly.   Flour will end up upon the floor making it a bit slick, regular rubber soled shoes or boots work best.  We will supply aprons for the participants to wear.  Friday, Feb. 5th, 3:30pm to 5:00pm.  $12.00 per participant.  Ages 6 to 13.

Looking to learn basic knitting skills or more advanced patterns?

Check out great knitting classes at Cowgirl Yarn!

Are you interested in getting your own art displayed and sold?

Works of Wyoming makes it happen!  Check out their website for more information on this tremendous opportunity including future gallery openings.

Keag Gallery Presents Exhibit from Local Artist Jennifer Mercer

Local artist and photographer Jennifer Mercer would like a moment to share the moments of time she’s caught on film during her travels to Africa and beyond. On display through May 4 at the Keag Gallery, 414 Grand, her exhibit “Window to the World: Scenes from Africa and Beyond,” features scenes of life and wildlife taken mostly in Africa but from other continents also.

“Every piece in the show has some individual thing about it that is captivating, but all for very different reasons,” Mercer said. “I think all places have something interesting about them; it’s just a matter of finding that singular thing in that place … To bring that back to a place in the United States, where people don’t all have the opportunity to go and see those things for themselves is great.”
Mercer’s photographs range in subject from Africa’s famous wildlife to Malagasy children sharing a lunch together. That photo has a certain personal gravity Mercer explained — the “lunch” being eaten by the children were Mercer’s leftovers, given to the children by her guide. These are the moments she shares through her photography.

For every piece sold during her exhibit, Mercer will donate 5 percent of the proceeds to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, a nonprofit with programs and initiatives in 16 countries around the world focusing on the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

The Keag Gallery is open from noon-6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from noon-5 p.m. Saturdays. For more information about the exhibit or gallery, call 745-3308.

Laramie Community Clean Up Day April 25th

The Laramie Main Street Program, in conjunction with the Laramie Economic Development Corporation, the Laramie Area Chamber of Commerce, the Laramie Boomerang, and the City of Laramie, proudly sponsors the Laramie Community Clean Up Day on Saturday, April 25th. The central meeting location will be the LEDC offices, located on the northeast corner of 2nd and Garfield St. Volunteers interested in helping can arrive at 8am on Saturday at the offices, from where they will be sent out to various locations throughout town to help clean. All volunteers should bring work gloves and wear appropriate clothing. The Laramie Fire Station on 4th Street will generously provide a complimentary lunch for all participants from noon until 1pm.

If you or anyone you know is interested in volunteering for this noble event, please contact the Laramie Main Street Program at (307)742-2212. You may also reach us via email at mainstreet@laramiewy.org. Please send your inquiries and volunteer offers to the attention of Nicholas. Feel free to invite as many friends as possible; if there is a section of town you would like to focus your efforts on, please make note and we will do everything possible to make sure you are assigned the area you wish to serve.

Laramie is in desperate need of a spring cleaning, and it is our responsibility as citizens of this great town to give it one! Please help with this worthwhile project; let's ensure that our children inherit a town worthy of its status as the "gem city of the plains."

Strong Support for Downtown Bus Stop

The Laramie Main Street Program would like to thank all the many community members who let their voice be heard at the Eppson Center's PATS bus meeting this past Tuesday. The Eppson Center listened and understands that there is a community-wide desire for a public bus stop to be located somewhere in the downtown area. The most likely location seems at this time to be somewhere along Garfield Street, as PATS is hoping to avoid some of the more heavily trafficked roads such as Grand St or Third Ave.

The addition of a busline servicing the downtown area is a major goal of the Laramie Main Street Program, and we would like to send our gratitude to the Eppson Center for considering making it part of their new bus routes. Please continue to show your support for a downtown bus system, as it will be vital in maintaining and strengthening the economic and social vitality of downtown Laramie.

Laramie Honored as a "Preserve America" Community

The Laramie Main Street Program wishes to congratulate Laramie on being named as a "Preserve America" community. This national honor is a White House initiative that recognizes communities that protect and celebrate their heritage, use their historic assests for economic development and community revitilization, and encourage people to experience and appreciate local historic resources through education and heritage tourism programs.

On November 5, 2008 First Lady Laura Bush, honorary chair of Preserve America, sent a letter of designation to Mayor Hanson. We here at Laramie Main Street wish to thank all who worked so diligently to make this designation possible. We would also like to send a heartfelt congratulations to the entire town of Laramie. The accolades continue to add up for the "gem city of the plains"!
